The theme this month is "Getting to know us." I've never met Laura
McHugh East in person, but feel like I know her in some ways because we have many art
things in common.
But you, dear blog readers, may not know either of us,
so we are going around our creative spaces this week to let you know
more about us.
This is an old set of machine shop drawers in my studio where I keep small things, and also lose them. I have to find a system for remembering what I put into which drawer. I really like how it looks just sitting there, but it would be better to use it and make it a functional storage space too.
I just moved and my new studio has a sink. It is a great place to wash the dogs (they are small and will fit) and also not have to drag art into the house and kitchen. I hung things I've collected over the years around it like: my sharps container for used blades, my son's baseball glove, an old pressure gauge, and a volt meter I bought at a garage sale.
One of my most prized items in my studio is my print press. It came from Conrad Machine Company in Michigan. I have had it now for three years. I love making prints and "he" is a steady and wonderful partner in this process.
My two other "go-to" items are my art bag from Michael's and my cart. I keep my brushes, pens and other items I use often in this bag. The little bag below is for my Pentel art brushes and a glue stick. Watch for sales at Michael's - I got the big bag for only $14. It is sturdy and has plenty of pockets for all your "tools."
The cart below is a treasured gift from my artist and photographer friend, B. B is a diligent Free-cycler. She saw this cart at a pick-up and generously offered it to me. I stash all my projects in progress on it, and stuff that needs to go to the studio to be put away. I can roll it down from my studio to the kitchen on Bad Art Nights.
It has been a god-send because otherwise, I'd be making trips with boxes that 80 feet back and forth.
I hope now you know a little more about both Laura McHughs. Please follow our blog, and post comments and questions - what more would you like to know?
And stay tuned, because we'll be posting photos of our art challenges to each other in the coming weeks.
Happy New Year all, and a special thank you to Laura McHugh East for playing with me this year on this blog.
